Genevieve Onwuma believes marriage is NO LONGER an achievement ! Do you agree ?

When Genevieve Onwuma says marriage is no longer an achievement, it challenges a long-held cultural belief. For years, especially in Nigerian society, marriage has been treated as a milestone that signals stability, maturity, and success—particularly for women. But today, priorities are shifting. More people are focusing on personal growth, financial independence, emotional well-being, and purpose, making marriage one part of life, not the defining goal. It is still valued, but no longer seen as the ultimate validation of a fulfilled life.

The deeper shift is in how “achievement” itself is being redefined. If marriage is entered intentionally—with compatibility, effort, and emotional maturity—it can still be considered an achievement. But when it is pursued as a social expectation or timeline pressure, it loses that meaning. What is happening now is a move from external validation to internal alignment, where individuals define success on their own terms. The real question is no longer whether marriage is an achievement, but whether people are choosing it for the right reasons.
